Just in case you weren't aware. Butch Walker and the Black Widows played an amazing secret show last night at The Basement in Venice, CA. They played new and old while taking shots and celebrating the launch of The Spade and the beginning of their tour. This was the last of Butch and the Widows shows at The Basement as a part of their monday night residency. I could tell you a play by play but I think the pictures will communicate enough. Leon's Emergency

Last night around 7:30 PM Ali received a phone call from a client, Gina Groth, who informed Ali that Leon doesnt look so good. Ali rushed to the barn and found a very irritated and unconfortable Leon wanting to roll around in his stall to appease his aching stomach.

With a call to an emergency vet in Ali, Gina, and Charles took turns walking Leon around the barn. When the vet arrived preliminary measures were taken to settle the violent stomach of such a sweet horse. The look of concern was legibly printed across everybody's face as they waited for the vets efforts to take effect.

As time dragged on it was apparent that Leon wasn't getting much better and that tfurther action was needed. Ali made the decision to take Leon to the Encino Equine center at 12:30 PM. Soon after Ali placed the call for a truck and trailer to haul Leon to the center, he was on his way.

Upon arrival, Leon underwent numerous tests from pumping fluids up his nose to a rectal exam that seemed all too uncomfortable for my tastes. Once all immediate threats were ruled out Leon was admitted to a plush straw of hay that looked to be the Hilton of horse stalls. Thrashing around in the hay looking for edibles Leon wasnt too happy. But over all I think he felt much better than just hours before.

We all left knowing that Leon would be in good hands.

Tried out a Vietnamese place yesterday called Blossom. Got their beef soup with rice noodles and was quite impressed. I think I will definitely be making another visit.

So let me plant this image in your head. Its 4:00 PM on a Sunday and two guys find themselves sitting on the couch. One turns to the other and says "I think I am going to get my lip tattooed". Just like many of the things people say and aspire to do, only about 40% of the ideas actually come to fruition. This however, was among that 40% and came about like many impulsive ideas do.

So there we sat on the couch waiting to hear back from Lindsay Parrotta, T.J.'s friend/ up and coming tattoo artist. Once we got the word that she could fit him in that night it was on! After sitting around and bullshitting about what was about to happen we finally made our way down to Oz Tattoo on Hollywood Blvd.

Once we got into the shop it all went so fast. From the routine paperwork releasing the shop of liability to the application of the stencil. "Lets Dance!" was the phrase of choice for T.J. that night and anyone who know's T.J. is well aware of his tendency to randomly break out in moves reminiscent of mighty Bobby Brown. These choice words were all too quickly applied to the inside of T.J.'s bottom lip. Having gone over it once and even able to touch it up in a matter of 20 minutes we were no sooner walking out the door. The experience as a whole only made me want my tattoo tribute to my home state of Oregon even more. We'll see what happens with that later.... ;)

Its been a while...

Okay, so I know it has been a while since I last posted anything to my blog. Things have been quite busy with moving, working, and bursting into a whole new scene of LA I had only heard about. I have been shooting s
hows like crazy and have recently been trying to get on top of editing and distributing my photos. Here a re a couple from the Band of Skulls show at the Hammer Museum on July 2nd. It was a great show and solidified them into a top spot on my favorite bands list. Great performance and they sounded just like their album which is always an important factor. Hope

you like the shots.

This is a great example how the web 2.0 generation is putting technology to use in such a way that it brings people from all over the world together. Sure, you can say facebook and myspace do that sort of thing, but those are just facades we all want each other to see. The way each of these individuals bare their souls within each of their performaces connects them in a much deeper meaningful way.

This video was a very interesting look into a photographers life. The cycles we all face with creativity and the hurdles life throws at us are unpredictable and random. it is how we chose to respond that determines who we are.

1st Attempt at creating something in Motion

Okay so I got the entire Final Cut Studio and I realized I don't know half the programs in there as well as I should. I have decided to start with the program Motion, which deals in 3D space. You can dictate the motion and behaviors of any object. With the ever so slow method of being self taught this small 30 second clip took me about 2 days to complete. However, I think there is something to be said about being self taught. When you are discovering new things your creativity is not compromised such as when a teacher wipes your foundation clean to then teach their perspectives on creativity.

I like this self teaching method of learning. Although slow I feel original, authentic, and true to myself. Give it a try and let me know what you think of my little video. (I plan on finishing it.... just don't know when.)

I know this video has already had its 15 minutes of fame but for those who have yet to see it be prepared for a good laugh. I can only hope I was this entertaining when my Dad sat me in the passenger seat still half unconscious after having my wisdom teeth removed. Makes me want to go under the knife again just to relive those wondrous brief moments. Enjoy!

Ok I stumbled across the first one and just thought it was cool, but this guy is making really cinematic videos documenting peoples weddings. What an amazing addition to just having some photos taken. If I had a camera and felt comfortable using it, producing wedding videos like these could be a very lucrative job. Im sure a ton of people would go for a video such as this so they could remember that day.

This is a great concept. Maybe not the best to shoot the whole video like that but the concept is pretty amazing. The music video was shot with 12 cameras on rig. the twelve cameras capture the performances simultaneously and then assemble in post and then edited... pretty spectacular.

The pics are a bit late, but better late than never. Its always nice seeing people you haven't seen in a while and meeting new people whom you have only known from a distance. Well, last weekend I finally got the chance to meet up with the Kyle Wong, Derek Wong, and friends. The food food was good, the conversation was better (virginity?), and the after party was.... an after party. Here are the pics from my camera.

There were an abundance of cameras there. But thats not the thing that surprised me, hence we are all either graduates or students of a photography school. The weird things was that we all mostly were rockin' the 10mm Fisheye. I guess great minds think alike.
You know its bad when we are taking pictures of each other taking pictures. Nice fisheye!
Justin and Amanda have a deep intellectual discussion on the fine line of virginity. When is it actually lost? In the end everyone sided with Justin hands down.

Slowin' it down

I love it when I come across something I have seen a million times but yet somehow I feel compelled to look at it once more because somebody put a unique spin on it. For example the video below is a just another skate video with a couple wipeouts. Nothing special right? Well not really, the creators took something that has been over produced and reinvented it. Of course it helps it was shot on the top camera of the industry right now. But regardless of the equipment, I believe it is the vision that really makes this video pop.

Yes, yes... I know, I have far too much time on my hands since I am jobless. But you have to take time out to enjoy the little things. Although, once I do get a job I hope my work environment is identical to this one.

This is the epitome of team building within a company. From Radio Disney to Trade Printing I think we all could use a little office war.

Here is another video that caught my interest. I had never heard of the band before but I love the way their sound and the aesthetic of the video work together. Very reminiscent of old color footage from the 60's.

I find it kind of funny that we use state of the art technology to make our projects look so imperfect and dated.

Okay so I just got the new Final Cut Studio and I have been really examining the possibilities of the programs that come with in this package. Well, I came across this amazing music video by a group called Hocus Pocus and their video is littered with Motion effects and creative editing.

Digging through the past

Did some digging and found some old pictures of when I went to Sea World. I am always amazed with how many pictures just end up sitting in my computer and never get seen.

Its kind of late now but I think my new years resolution is to get more of my unreleased images out and off my hard drives. I cant get any feedback on them if nobody sees them.

There is a first time for everything, right? I thought we were going to a Karaoke bar... key word there would be bar.
Ended up being a small room.... kind of like you see in the movie Lost in Translation with Bill Murray.
Soju was the drink of the night. Dampened the pain of listening to each other sing...
I swear she knew every song and every word to that song... who needs to look at the screen?
Good times!
As the night went on the room filled with enthusiasm.
Korean shrimp funions... haha
This is when you know the night is over. Drinks were drunk, songs were slurred, and fun was had.

Just got my bundle of joy in the mail. When I say bundle, I mean 9 disc and 5 novel thick manuals. It will occupy 53gigs of space on my hard-drive. It is the masterpiece called Final Cut Studio 2.

Now I just need some beautiful footage to play with. Got any?

So this last week was chalked full of family bonding. My family (minus one, wish you could have made it) flew down to LA to see me graduate. Little did they know due to the storm of the century would keep them in LA for an entire week. It was fun though and we made the best of it.

Due to my father and brother's shared jealousy of my trendy style I allowed them to wear my sweet Drew Carey glasses. I think they wanted to keep them.

We did a lot of hanging out at my place during the unexpected duration of the trip. That was my place before the "one woman remodeling crew" I call my mom arrived. (Thank you)

You talkin' to me?!

So I gave my brother, Casey (non-photographer), my D70 and set him up and the following were a couple shots during our trip to Ikea.

We gave them a lot of business on this trip.

And finally Cocoa the "vicious" dog made a few new friends this last weekend. Thanks dad for volunteering your dog sitting services for future trips. You don't know what you have gotten yourself into.... haha
